Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you around in the re-established area in Skjern River Valley.

Her finder du også e informationstavle.

English:
The river was straightened and diked in during the period 1962-68 and most of the valley was subsequently used as intensively cultivated arable land until 1999, when construction work was started on the nature project. Before drainage the area consisted of a mosaic of streams, small lakes, reed forests, meadows, dry grassland and heath land. At times of high water flow the river would flow over its banks making the river valley one large area of adjoining lakes and swamps. In the middle of 1999 construction work commenced on the largest nature restoration project in Northern Europe to reclaim the meandering of a river course. Over a period of 3 ½ years about 40 km of new watercourse have been excavated and regulated. The result is more or less a return to the river bends of Skjern Å of 1900. Restoration work has included removal of unnecessary dikes, pumping stations, bridges and roads. The disused stretches of watercourse and drainage channels have been filled in with excavated earth and material from the demolished dikes. In order to prevent the transfer of genes from the nature area to the adjacent areas new stretches of dikes have been constructed at critical points and measures have been taken against the erosion of the riverbanks. Other constructions include 2 wooden bridges for traffic passing over the new river course, several kilometres of roadwork, measures against erosion at the new and the existing bridges, and protected bicycle paths. For outdoor activity and tourism purposes two trail ferries will operate within the area, and there are 17 bridges varying in size from 5 to roughly 50 metres for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and 26 parking areas with various facilities.

You must answer a question before you can find the cache. The answer you will find on the coordinates above:
