Geocache Description:

Prague TravelBug Hotel "Hunger wall" - place for the incoming and outgoing travelbugs.

Prague TravelBug Hotel "Hunger wall"

The Prague wall was built by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1362 - 1362. According to a local legend its purpose was to defend the emperor's beloved city and to provide a relief to the people of Prague suffering by famine at that time. Also the emperor is said to don the mason's working clothes and work few hours every day at the construction site.

In reality the project was purely defensive and the famine came only after the fortification works were in progress. There were several bastions, which have not been preserved until our time. The wall was repaired in 1624 and by the order of emperess Maria Theresa a strong fortification with the bastions was added - one of them is used as the base of the central dome of the Stefanik's Observatory. Several passages through the wall were broken through later, then reclosed again and opened in other places. Today the wall is 1178 meters long, 170 cm thick in average and about 8 meters high. The Hunger Wall, also called "Teethy" or "Bread" one, has gone through many repairs, eg. in the times of Ferdinand II, later in the reign of Maria Theresa, after the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak state in years 1923-5, and in 1975.

Hladová zed - Travelbug Hotel

"Zed z místní petrínské opuky nechal zbudovat v letech 1360 až 1362 císar Karel IV. Karel proto tak cinil, aby milované mesto rodné pred úkladem neprátel ochránil a též proto, aby lidu pražskému, hladem práve strádajícímu, výživy poskytl.

Hledejte pomerne dobre schovany ammobox. Travelbugy vkladejte nebo vyzvedavejte dle libosti, jen budte prosim opatrni, at Vas nikdo nepozoruje.
