Single stage cache leading you to a not to well known ruin close
to the Slovenian boarder.
Einfacher Cache bei einer wenig bekannten Ruine
in der Nähe der Slowenischen Grenze.
The Castle Schmierenberg was build and extended between the 12th
and 17th Century.
Since the 18th century the castle started to tumbledown.
Now there are only some walls left, but you can still imagine the
quite impressive former size of this place.
As there is a sign telling you to keep away from the ruins as it is
quite danger there (see the picture: reason why) I have hidden the
cache outside the ruins.
You don’t have to enter the forbidden aria if you just want
to find the cache!
If you move on it is on your own risk! Please take care and
don’t go there during ice and snow!
The road towards the castle starts quite close to the start of the
Sveti Duh cache.
You have to leave the main road at:
N 46° 38.213
E 15° 28.665
If you want to have a longer walk (about 1,5km), if you are afraid
of your car or if you drive a sportscar (racebike) I suggest to
leave the car/motorbike at this place.
If you drive an Offroadcar or an Enduro you will have some fun to
drive up to the ruins.
This is an official road, so you are allowed to drive there, but
expect a gravel road with some steeper parts and quite loose
ground.
Using my Africa Twin (even without offroad tires) it was not too
hard to go there.
After about 1.5 km you will reach a crossing. Turn right
there.
If you are still driving a vehicle you have to leave it here, but
now you are only about 150m from the cache.
There is a small path leading towards the cache.
When you have to pass the sign on the picture you are already too
far.
The cache is hidden at:

E 15° 29.317
The cache is a 1 liter preserving jar.
The rating of the cache is without a visit to the ruins!
If you don’t want to drive back down, you can go back the few
meters to the last crossing, turn left and after about 2km of
easy forest road you will hit a tarmac road again.
Die Burg Schmierenberg wurde im 12. Jahrhundert
gebaut und bis ins 17.Jahrhundert mehrfach um und ausgebaut. Seit
dem 18. Jahrhundert verfällt die Burg.
Heute stehen nur mehr einige Mauern.
Man kann sich aber auch heute noch gut vorstellen wie groß dieser
Festung einmal war.
Leider ist das Betreten des Ruinengeländes aufgrund der Absturz-
und Steinschlagsgefahr verboten. (Siehe Foto: reason why)
Daher habe ich den Cache noch außerhalb der Ruine
versteckt.
Um den Cache zu finden muß man das Ruinengelände nicht
betreten!
Wer trotzdem weiter geht tut das auf eigene Gefahr!
Ich bitte um besondere Vorsicht. Im Winter bei Eis und Schnee würde
ich dort nicht hin gehen!
Der Zufahrtsweg zur Ruine liegt in der Nähe der Startkoordinaten
zum
Sveti Duh Cache.
Bei folgenden Koordinaten muß man die Hauptstraße verlassen:

E 15° 28.665
Wer gerne etwas weiter spazieren geht, Angst um sein Auto hat oder
einen Sportwagen (Sportmotorrad) fährt, sollte sein Fahrzeug dort
stehen lassen.
Mit einem Geländewagen oder eine Enduro kann die Fahrt zur Burg
aber Spaß machen.
Die Schotterstraße ist teilweise etwas steil und abschnittsweise
liegen recht lose Steine mit einigen cm Durchmesser.
Mit meiner Africa Twin (ohne offroad Bereifung) war es aber nicht
allzu schwer dort rauf zu kommen.
Nach ca. 1,5 km kommt eine Kreuzung, dort links abbiegen.
Wer noch immer mit einem Fahrzeug unterwegs ist muß es jetzt hier
stehen lassen, ist aber nur mehr ca. 150m vom Cache entfernt.
Es führt ein kleiner Pfad zum Cache. Kommt man am Verbotsschild
(siehe Foto) vorbei, ist man schon zu weit!
Der Cache ist bei folgenden Koordinaten versteckt:

Der Cache ist ein 1 Liter Einmachglas.
Bei der Bewertung wurde nur der Weg zum Cache und nicht ein Besuch
der Ruinen bewertet!
Wer nicht mehr die steilere Straße nach unten zurück fahren will
kann bei der letzen Kreuzung (die ja nur ein paar Meter zurück
liegt) links abbiegen.
Nach ca. 2km einfachem Waldweg kommt man wieder auf eine
Asphaltstraße.
