Barbora
Celá staletí trvající zápas o duchovní samosprávu mezi Kutnou Horou, reprezentovanou ambiciózními dulními podnikateli a nedalekým Sedleckým klášterem, sídlem rádu cisterciáku, vyústil ve zbudování prestižního chrámu. Ten byl postaven za okrajem mestských hradeb, na pozemku Pražské kapituly - tedy mimo dosah pusobnosti Sedleckého kláštera, a zasvecen Svaté Barbore - patronce havíru. Chrám založený v roce 1388 byl z velké cásti zbudován pod patronací horníku. Jeho velkolepá stavba, která mela podle nekterých historických pramenu dosahovat dvojnásobku dnešní délky, probíhala v nekolika etapách a do znacné míry souvisela s prosperitou kutnohorských dolu. Vlivem nejruznejších událostí byly práce nekolikrát prerušeny a od jejich zahájení do definitivního ukoncení v roce 1905 ubehlo více jak 500 let. Kutná Hora se vždy snažila vyrovnat Praze a není náhodou, že se na stavbe podíleli i pražští stavitelé. Prvním projektantem chrámu se stal Jan Parlér, syn Petra Parlére - stavitele Svatovítské katedrály. Shoda architektury chrámu s pražským Svatovítským dómem není tedy náhodná. Nejstarší cást s vencem ochozových kaplí napodobuje rozvržení francouzských katedrál. Puvodne budované trojlodí bylo však pomerne rychle rozšíreno o široké vnejší lodi. Ve svahu u chrámu je zachován pozustatek gotické kaple Božího Tela, postavené nekdy v druhé pol. 14. století. Kaple Božího Tela prošla rekonstrukcí a je otevrená i pro verejnost. Z bývalých hradeb u chrámu se nám otevírá panoramatický pohled do údolí rícky Vrchlice, i na mesto smerem k Sedleckému klášteru.
Saint Barbara Cathedral
A struggle for spiritual autonomy lasting whole centuries between Kutna Hora represented by ambitious mining enterpraneurs and nearby settlement of Cistercian Sedlecky monastery, lead to erection of a prestigious temple. It was built behind boundaries of town fortification walls at lands of the Prague chapter – far from the reach of the Sedlecky monastery provinces and was dedicated to Saint Barbora – the patron of miners. Temple held in the year 1388 was above all built under the patronage of mineworkers. According to the historical resources its majestic construction had extended to the double of today's length, ran through several stages and in some measure related to the prosperity of mines at Kutna Hora. Works had been interrupted several times due to various events and more than 500 years passed between the start and the ending in the year 1905. Kutna Hora always aimed to match to the Prague and it was no coincidence that Prague builders participated in a construction. The first architect of the temple became Jan Parler, son of Peter Parler – builder of the Saint Vithus cathedral. Thus the correspondence with the architecture of Saint Vithus dome is not a coincidence. Oldest part with the ring of ambit chapels imitates a distribution at french cathedrals. Initial three bays were rather quickly extended with wide outer aisles. At the descent under the temple there is a residue of a gothical Corpus Christi chapel built at times of the second half of the 14th century. The chapel of Corpus Christi went through a restoration and now it's open for the public. At former fortification walls a scenic view opens up to the valley of river Vrchlice and also to the Sedlecky monastery.
