Geocache Description:

You don’t always have to travel far to find interesting or exotic areas; sometimes they are hidden right in your own back yard. This pond and quaking bog are no exception as they are right in the city of Dover but probably few people have ever visited this site. There is a short walk to the log walkway that goes through the springy bog by the cache toward the water's edge. Be very careful not to step off the logs because you may end up standing on this floating mat of vegetation that moves like a waterbed as you step on it and will not support your weight. Some careless cachers have found themselves standing waist deep in bog water. Besides the myriad of other insect and plant life here, if you look closely in the thick moss and underbrush on the left-hand side of the log walkway near the water’s edge you may find pitcher plants. These carnivorous plants feed on flies and other insects that get trapped in the pool of digestive juices inside the plants. Please do not disturb or touch the plants in this fragile ecosystem and stay on the established trail and walkway. Boots would be a good idea because the walkway consists of slippery moss covered logs that bridge some of the small open boggy areas. Test everything before putting your full weight on it because you may find some of the logs are just floating on the shallow water and not supported. After you find the cache it is worth carefully walking to the end of the log walkway to a make-shift viewing platform complete with a bench. Parking is at the end of Smith Well Road at N43 12.930 W070 53.064 on the left-hand side of the road. Do not block the driveway on the right and do not park in front of the fence or locked gate at the end of the road. The trail begins on the left side of the road between the parking area and the fence.

3-27-2022 Cache has been slightly moved to a drier location since it frequently goes missing.

4-21-2022 Another move slightly further away from trail so that it is not easily seen.
