Directions. The cache is on the Nevis road. Travel south from Cromwell, through Bannockburn to the foot of the Carrick range. The road is signposted.
Warnings:
This road is high - 1281 metres
The road is gravel, steep in places and can be affected by heavy rain.
In the winter the road can be impassable because of snow and ice.
The temperature at the top will be colder than in the valley and if it is windy watch out for the wind-chill.
This is not a high speed road. Please drive according to the conditions.
It is worthwhile travelling down into the Nevis Valley and soaking up some of the history of the gold miners who lived and worked here during the gold rush. There is still some colour to be found so bring your gold pan! Summers can be hot in the valley.
It is possible to travel with a 4 wheel drive right through the valley and out onto the Lumsden – Kingston highway.
