Geocache Description:

Taunt thou not the terrible tippling lest thee teeter on thine tip-toes.

At these rock formations can be found one of the favorite tippling spots in the area. Until the local rail line was extended to Rockport this area marked the end of the line for all rail traffic and the train stopped about 1/3 of a mile down the tracks from this point (at the Bass Rocks Station that was just upstream from the old mill.

Prior to the rail being extended past this point the trains would stop, and porters and teamsters would unload the freight into mule, horse, or ox drawn carts for the trip into what is now called Rockport. While the carts were being loaded the drivers would often slip off to this point to have a little nip, to grab a quick nap, or just to grb a bite to eat and relax for a while. At one point there was a small colonial tavern on the road where it splits, and the ruins of old building can actually be seen from this point.

The old road actually ran from Dogtown square, followed the "Path to Beaver Dam", looped around this point to head towards Wine Bog. The road forks here with a spur that crosses a small stone bridge over Alewife Brook, with two connections to Olde Rockport Road. The shortest path to the Olde Rockport Road is a now impassible boardwalk foot path, or the longer cart/horse path that connects further down.

If you reach this cache you owe it to yourself to spend a little time in Dogtown.

The cache is fairly well hidden, but you will be able to find it with some considerable patience.

The cache container is a large green plastic ammo can, and it is chocked full of goodies.

Be careful on the rocks as the leaves can make things a bit slippery.

The geology of this immediate area is interesting and unique as a visitor can clearly see how the rock burst out of the Earth and then folded over on itself while still in a molten state. Over time the rock fragmented and split off which created interesting caves, ledges, and this hiding place.

The given coordinates are accurate to within 20 feet, but the terrain makes it tricky to use GPS. There are a huge number of geologic hiding place here so give yourself plenty of time to find the cache.
