Located near the summit of Allt yr Esgair (ridge of the hill) with an ancient earthwork and views of the central Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and Llangorse Lake.
There are several ways up onto the ridge, all on well marked bridleways.
I recommend starting from the large lay by on the A40 2km north of Bwlch at N51° 53.765 W003° 16.010 (GR SO129227). There are toilets, picnic tables and occasionally a snack van. Alternatively you could approach from Pennorth.
Whichever way you tackle it you will be rewarded with a delightful woodland walk and wide reaching views, to the west the peaks of Pen y Fan and Cribyn and just below the Usk valley with it’s meandering river. To the east Mynydd Troed and Mynydd Llangorse are in view. Also in full view is Llangorse lake the largest naturally formed lake in South Wales. On the summit are the remains of an iron age fort.
Please note the bridleways can become muddy and slippery after rain so suitable footwear is required.
The cache is a painted and marked ammo box and contains log book, pen, pencil and sharpener and also contains items for trade.
