Geocache Description:

A geocache devoted to interaction and communication. It was created to open the lines of communication between geocachers. Meet new people. Make new friends. The coordinates for this cache are not those above but are within a few miles of the above spot.

The coordinates for this cache can only be found by contacting someone who knows them already.

There may be wildlife habitats in the area (skunk in particular). Please be kind to our tree friends

The rules of engagement for this cache are as follows:

  1. To get the coordinates you must contact (email, phone, telepathy, ...) two people who already have them (see the knowledge diagram below). One of them can give you the north and the other can give you the west. You must contact them directly (IE, not via a mailing list) and you must wait 24 hours after asking 2 people for help before you can give up on them and ask other people. (ie, please do not ask everyone eligible to give you coordinates).
  2. Once you receive at least one coordinate, you are then eligible (required actually) to give it to 2 more people. You must be willing to do this even if you haven't found the cache yourself yet. You do not have to find the cache, of course, to be part of the knowledge tree.
  3. When someone contacts you requesting a coordinate, you must provide it to them if you can do so based on these rules. If they request a particular coordinate, you should give them that one if it is legal to do so. If they don't ask for a particular one, you may choose one (assuming you have 2 in the first place, of course).
  4. You may hand out each coordinate only 2 times (IE, a total of 4 times; 2 for north and 2 for west).
  5. When you find the cache and log it (or if you just want to write a note saying you know the coordinates), you must include in your log the two people that gave you the coordinates. To do so, please use the following format on a line by itself in the log message:
    CoordinatesFrom: person1,person2

(using this exact form will greatly help me).
  6. When you have given out both coordinates 2 times (total of 4), please post a note here saying this and using the following format:
    CoordinatesTo: person1,person2,person3,person4

[this step is mostly so people know you're done handing stuff out. You can post earlier notes as well using the same format with less people if you want to help people figure out who they can ask.]
  7. Coordinates may only be given out when asked for. You may not send them to people that haven't asked you for them yet.
  8. You may not give both coordinates to the same person. Likewise, please don't ask one person for both of them.
  9. Since I'm sure this question will come up: If you get a duplicate coordinate (eg, 2 norths), you'll have to ask someone for the other. It's up to the two of you to coordinate whether the giver counts you as one of his 2 for that coordinate or not.
  10. There is a pretty knowledge diagram showing who has given things to whom below. It will be populated nightly (at least) based on the logs submitted.

Legend:

Given out < 4 times Given max times
Found the cache Orange Green
Hasn't found the cache yellow red
(hint: if you don't know the coordinates, contact someone yellow or orange)

A couple of people, um, didn't follow the instructions to find the cache:

Notes on the cache itself:

  • It is placed near a very knowledgeable tree. Take a minute to look at, walk around it and touch it. It has been here longer than you. It can probably teach you a thing or two about life if you ask it nicely.
  • The cache is in a 2x4x6 rubber maid container that has been painted brown (thanks to rivercity for the current and the last container. They've replaced it twice now for me).
  • It is well covered, and please recover it well and put it back in the same place (it is tempting to put it in the tree, as there is room for it, but it is obvious that many kids climb the tree so do not put the cache in the tree when you hide it).
  • You will likely need the hints to find it, which will lead you right too it.
  • Walk from the parking lot over the grass/weeds/whatever to avoid going down the slope from the upper paved path. Trust me on this one. I didn't. But boy was I laughed at by a friend.

I owe a HUGE THANKS to AC Student for archiving a near by cache so that this cache could be placed. It is kind cachers like him that make life so pleasant. I doubt I could find another tree as impressive as this one is and in such a nice spot. Thank you AC Student. I owe you a drink of your favorite kind at the next geocaching event we're at together.
