Geocache Description:

An easy short hike along Stony Brook in Westford. Total roundtrip hiking time to the cache and back is about 30 minutes (not including searching time). In order to really get into the spirit of this cache, you should bring something to eat and some water or juice. This is a beautiful area and there are lots of places to stop and enjoy the views and many additional trails to explore.

Best place to park is just off Depot Street near the railroad tracks at 42-35.841N, 071-26.128W. Start out on the dirt road leading into East Boston Camps, but then take the trail that goes off to the left of the sign before you get to the camp. To reach the cache, you don’t walk into the East Boston Camps, but follow the trail, leaving the camp entrance on your right.

This trail will eventually work its way along the shore of Stony Brook. Along the brook, and depending on the season, you’re likely to see Great Blue Herons, hawks, various species of ducks (mallards, black ducks, ring-necked ducks and wood ducks are the most common), Canada Geese, beavers with many active lodges and dams, muskrats, turtles, etc. When you reach 42-35.873N, 71-26.780W, sit down, relax and eat your snack. That’s what Grammie and Grampy would have done. While you’re relaxing, count the number of letters and multiply by 16.5 to get the magnetic bearing to the cache. You shouldn’t have to search too far.

At the 2/7/05 Westford Town Meeting, the town decided to purchase this property. Details still need to be worked out, but hopefully, this site can be preserved as is. For more information on the purchase, see (visit link)

The cache is a green ammo box with an assortment of goodies you might find under the sofa or between the seat cushions around Grammie and Grampy’s house. The initial cache contains: a camel miniature magic carpet, a 68000 series processor chip, computer memory modules, a (not too) silent dog whistle, golf tee, old Mac mouse, street hockey ball, golf ball, ping pong ball, Christmas bow, woven bracelet, spike key and divot puller, fancy drawer pull, firearm safety pamphlets, coins from Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands and Germany. Have a seat and take in the scenery as you enjoy your snack and make your log entry. Cache in and Trash Out - Relax. Come back again to explore the trails around the pond and through the camps.
