Manuka Gorge Tunnel, Otago Traditional Geocache
U.N.C.L.E.: Gibler just made it in time! Was planning to remove cache and archive this today so he was lucky he found it yesterday. A routine retirement of a cache that is almost three years old. Visits seem to be few and far between now. Was never entirely happy with this hide anyway. When I placed it I was unaware of another cache nearby and two in this spot seems like overkill. Container and contents will be recycled to a new location near Dunedin (plans already in motion.)

The Manuka Gorge is part of State Highway 8 about 20 km from Milton and a similar distance from Lawrence. The tunnel is well signposted.
The Manuka Gorge Tunnel was part of the long gone railway branch line that ran from Milton to Roxburgh. It now features glow-worms. The cache is located close to the carpark. If you want to check out the tunnel you'll need to walk a bit further on a well maintained track. The information board suggests a torch!
The bush canopy does not allow for accurate GPS co-ordinates to be obtained at the exact cache location. The listed co-ordinates will take you to a point on the track. From there you need to locate a 44 gallon drum. It can be easily seen from the track. The cache is located within 10 metres of this drum. It is visible from one metre.
The cache is a 1 litre black-painted snaplock container.
Before or after finding this cache you might like to attempt Donovan's Mount Stuart cache further up the gravel track.
