Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the Haywards point reserve.

AS THE ACCESS TRACK AND THIS CACHE IS IN A RESERVE ABOVE THE CLIFFS AT ARAMOANA IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT CHILDREN ARE CLOSELY MONITORED. The cache is in a reserve of native trees including a large number of totara. The vegetation in the area where is hidden has grown enormously since I hid the cache in 2005 so gone now are the good views. The natives are now firmly established and growing well. The plus side of this growth is that you can have a rest in the shade after completing the caches further done the hill. There are two access points. The first is from Aramoana. Park at S45° 46.654 / E170° 41.986. There is a nearly 200m climb from here. The other way is from the Haywards Point Road. This road branches off the road to Long Beach. Drive to the end of the road. From this point there is not the same climbing. From both access points follow the marked track. The cache is a camo painted snap lock container. From the cache site you can continue down to the Haywards Point light house. It is also possible to get to the Kaikai Beach from here, but consult a map for the best route.
