Geocache Description:

A regular cadhe hidden near Summerhouse Lake

“Then the grim boar’s head frown’d on high,
Crested with bays and rosemary.
Well can the green-garb’d ranger tell,
How, when, and where, the monster fell;
What dogs before his death to tore,
And all the baiting of the boar.”

The summerhouse that gave the lake its name was originally built for Dowager Queen Adelaide, widow of William IV. Sir Walter Scott sat in it to compose the poem Marmion, while a guest at Bentley Priory. Although the summerhouse doesn’t exist anymore this is still a fascinating area to visit.

An enormous oak, said to be the oldest in Middlesex can be found near the cache location.

Recommended parking for this and the other three ‘Priory’ caches is at 51°37.743'N, 0°19.427'W, and the footpath can be accessed via Priory Drive (this is a private Road so you can not park there). Alternatively you can combine these caches with the ‘Grim’ caches and park at 51°37.228'N, 0°20.968'W (both car parks are free).
