Geocache Description:

The headwaters of three watersheds, Cedar Creek, Forked River and Oyster Creek, originate from rainfall at the top of these Forked River Mountains and flow into Barnegat Bay. The top of this mountain, rises 184 feet above sea level. History: At one time an artifact collector found Native American pottery, bones, arrowheads and many other implements at this site. In 1614 Captain Cornelius Hendrickson charted three branches of the Forked River, from this mountain top The Forked River Mountains were important to shipbuilding for pine products. The name comes from the three branches of the river which form a fork. The sand hills of the Forked River Mountain are higher than many can believe without seeing them. From the road ,one can see the hills along the skyline far away. Lacey Township gets its name from Gen. John Lacey who in 1809 built at Ferrago, later Bamber, a forge, dwelling houses, barns, and stables. From the top you can see the hangar at Lakehurst and the Barnegat Light, all without the aid of field glasses. When you see this you are within 500 ft of cache.
