Pioneer Cemetery - Franklin Mills Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

SerenityNow: This hide has given us problems all along. The line holding the cache continues to break or cachers drop the container in the hole, so we've decided to simply archive this one. It's had a long run and was one of our favorite hides, but all things must end someday. Thanks to all that visited!

Geocache Description:

Pioneer Cemetery is on Stow Street, visible from Rt. 59, near Kramer Fields. This is an old cemetery with many unreadable stones. Recent upgrades are evidence that the local historical society and the city are doing a fine job of restoring and maintaining this historical graveyard. As in all cemeteries, please be careful, respectful, and hunt the cache in daylight hours only.

Two centuries ago, in 1805, an enterprising man named John Haymaker ventured westward to the newly formed state of Ohio and settled with his family on the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The river was the essential element in the growth and development of Franklin Mills, which in 1863 was renamed Kent. Pioneer Cemetery, started in 1810 holds the graves of the Haymaker family and other early settlers of Kent and Franklin Township.
