This is the location of the building best known as Lepakkoluola (the Batcave). It started out in 1940 as a paint warehouse, in 1969 it became a shelter for alcoholics, and was taken over by a youth movement in 1979 when the building was to be demolished. For twenty years it was used as a youth and music center (including the first home of the Radio City radio channel), until 1999 when it finally was demolished to make way for the office building now standing at the site.
All that now remains of the building is the steel bat sculpture by Jouni Kuusimäki, which is permanently mounted in a glass case. For further information on the site history, I recommend the book Lepakkoluola by Miska Rantanen or the Lepakko — CavePeople art CD-ROM if you can lay your hands on it.
If you've read this far, "Nahkahiiri" means leather mouse in finnish. Nearby you'll also find the longtime companion Rainbow Forest (GCRN22).
