Geocache Description:

This is you chance to dust off your iron horse and take it for a 22 mile bike ride down the west side of the Iron Horse rail trail (it's also known as the John Wayne Pioneer Trail).

We'll start at the summit of Snoqualmie pass and end up a bit south of North Bend where we will picnic at Rattlesnake lake.

At the beginning we will ride, or walk, through a 2-mile long tunnel (oooh scary). Make sure to bring flashlights and coats; it will be cold and dark even on a sunny day. After that the ride is downhill on a gravel trail at a 2 percent grade. That's just enough to make peddling an easy affair. Bring the whole family along!

Along the way we will stop to hunt 14 caches including one really old one and one really rare one.

When: Saturday May 14, 2005 9:00AM*

Where: The ride will start from the Forest Service parking lot for the boat launch. A NW forest pass is required.

* The wet-siders should meet at 8AM at Rattlesnake lake to form carpools. I will bring a small truck and trailer that can haul many bikes. I plan to leave it at the lake to haul the dry-siders bikes back to thier cars at the top, but I only have room for 3 bodies. If would be ideal if someone else could leave a van at the lake for the rest of the dry-side riders. This plan is subject to change.

Driving directions:
Take I-90 to exit #54
Turn south at the exit
Turn east (left) on Hwy-906, drive 1/2 mile.
Turn right on Lake Keechelus boat launch road
You can either leave your car at the summit and get a ride back up at the end or leave a car in North Bend and get dropped off at the summit at the start. Feel free to post notes here to make your arrangements.

Even though the ride is not hard if you don't think you can sit on a bike for 20+ miles there is an early opt out point at Garcia. You could leave a car at N47 25.436 W121 37.280. To get there take I-90 to exit 38 and turn south onto FSD 9020 at N47 25.818 W121 38.272 and drive 1.1 miles.
