Park wood has been around for over 200 years, and in that time it has been
used for keeping pigs and rearing pheasants, as well as the normal woodland pursuits
of tree-felling, and coppicing. Today, Coventry City
Council maintain the park for public recreational use, and as a refuge for
plants and wildlife. More information about Park Wood can be found here.
The wood is tucked away between a business park, a school and the odd clump of
housing. There are many paths, wide and narrow meandering through the trees,
beautiful when the bluebells are out. A pretty spot that you really wouldn't
find unless you knew it was there.
The easiest parking is on Charter Avenue, where there are several entrance
points into the two areas of woodland, which are linked by a path across a
field. It's really up to you how long a walk you choose to take. Closest
roadside parking is about 0.2 miles. The paths through the wood can get
rather muddy after rain, hence the terrain rating.
You can get to within a 70 feet or so of the cache without leaving the
path, but watch out, as there's really only one easy way in.
The cache is a medium tupperware-type container, with a log book and all the
usual goodies. Please make sure it is well hidden when you leave.
