Fendalton Factors (Canterbury) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Grandalf: This cache has gone missing a number of times, and a number of the waypoint details have changed as people do things to their houses - different colour, etc.
So I am now archiving this cache - there is now no cachebox at the final location. At least the last two searchers were able to log their finds after completing the full walk around the properties.
If anyone wants to, they can still do the walk - it is a very interesting area that has come through the Christchurch earthquakes very well, and showcases some of the beautiful homes in this part of our city.
As a cache designer, I am moving on to more challenges - aiming to be as devious as ever.
Cheers to all
Grandalf

Geocache Description:

A short walk among the stately homes of Fendalton.

The coordinates for this listing are not the final cache, just the best place to park a car.

This circuit around the streets of Fendalton could be done as a walk from the central city area across Hagley Park and back, enjoying the river and the lovely houses and trees of this area. The waypoints are easy to find, so you can enjoy looking at the houses and trees. It would combine well with the "Bridge the Park" multicache.

Whether you walk or park your car at S 43° 31.418 E 172° 37.006, proceed to visit the seven waypoints (about 30 minutes walk) and record the Prime Number house numbers at each (A-G).

(A) S 43° 31.363 E 172° 36.960 - NOTE: three street numbers are temporarily missing due to construction work - the one you want is the smallest of these
(B) S 43° 31.230 E 172° 36.868 - White fence behind a low holly hedge.
(C) S 43° 31.270 E 172° 36.673 - Modern with cream fence and small brown iron grilles.
(D) S 43° 31.240 E 172° 36.749 - Corner section with large silver birch tree.
(E) S 43° 31.107 E 172° 36.885 - A big black gate.
(F) S 43° 31.244 E 172° 36.983 - Stucco house with wooden front fence.
(G) S 43° 31.333 E 172° 37.125 - Block of apartments with big brass house number.

Now, multiply A, B, C and D together, and subtract 1291 - to get the South coord Minutes.
Multiply E, F and G together, and add 2296 - to get the East coord Minutes.
Combine with S 43° and E 172° to get the final cache location.

Due to the earthquake damage in the area, you will now need to step slightly northeastward into the garden areas to reach this groundlevel cache (a round camo screwtop box). It's not far back to your car from here - just walk west through the reserve.
