While driving around northeastern California to pick up pages
for the DeLorme
Challenge, I stopped at this viewpoint to enjoy the view.
Unfortunately before I was able to get my camera out, some clouds
moved in and obscured the mountains in the distance. If the view is
clear for you, please post pictures with your log.
From here you can see Mount Shasta 54 miles away to the west and
Mount Lassen 42 miles away to the south. Dozens of other peaks are
also visible.
If you're in to benchmarks, see if you can find the
benchmark
at the pullout. The witness post is clearly visible and I was
able to find one of the reference marks, but I spent over a half
hour searching and never found the actual benchmark disk.
To get to the cache, go to the east end of the pullout then
carefully cross the road. The slope is easier to climb
there.
