Geocache Description:

On pedestrian bridge over the river at the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers.

The bridge that this cache is on is a pedestrian bridge made from an old railroad bridge that went defunct. Both the lumber industry and heavy industry were the early backbone of Eau Claire (once the second largest city in Wisconsin, around 1870s). The lumber mills closed, a lot of the heavy industry left.

If you look closely into the water below you can see the old wood pilings that are a century old that were used by the loggers and gandy dancers to float the logs from the North to the mills.

The view is great, the history is great and you get a view of the new City Center and RCU headquarters on the other bank.

History trivia for you. RCU or Royal Credit Union was founded as part of the Credit Union for UniROYAL which closed in 1990 and is now Banbury place. (Also happen to be some other fine caches over that way...)
