Geocache Description:

Located at Cannibal Bay in the Catlins. This is a lovely beach and worth the walk to the end and over the low sand hills to Surat Bay beyond.

Both beaches are used as resting places by sea lions. Give them a wide berth even when they are sleeping as they are capable of moving surprisingly fast when they choose.

The sea lions rest in the sandhills especially over night so keep vigilant when moving off the beach.

This was an area inhabited by Maori in the past. Archeological sites and artefacts have been found in this area. Please remember that it is illegal to remove any archeological artefacts from the area.

The cache is a 1 litre camo painted snaplock container hidden at ground level and visible from 0 metres. It has small trading items.
