The successor to “White Feather” as the most difficult cache on
the island. Two microcaches lead to the final container, which is
big enough for some small swaps and is hidden in an amazing
place.
This cache can be found at any time, but due to the steep ground
on a couple of sections it should be avoided in wet or icy
conditions, and in high winds. Not suitable for small children, and
dogs should be kept under careful control on the steep
sections.
You need a reasonable head for heights, and footwear with good
grip. Experience of steep scrambling will help, but note that there
are safe paths all the way (albeit narrow in places, with the odd
"bad step"). If you are heading for a cliff edge with no path,
you’re off route – stop and check!
If you walk the whole route, it will be about two miles each
way. This can be cut to about three-quarters of a mile each way if
you drive from the first micro to the car park near to the second
(Waypoint below).
There is much of interest en route but I won’t give any
information here, as the cache is a bit of a mystery tour. Suffice
to say that the Bradda Lode in 1878 was described as “The noblest
surface exhibition of a mineral vein to be seen in Europe”. Find
out more at
Manx Notebook.
Begin at the coordinates specified: what you find there on the
orange sticker has to be used with the encrypted instructions
below. It might help to know that the second micro and the final
cache are both at N 54°05’ and W 4°46’ – it’s just the decimals
that are needed.
The cache contains a Michigan Geocoin, a bat, some (fishing
lure) worms (from Elvis the Trog), Bushy’s stickers, some tiny
micro cache containers, a rally badge (2002) and one or two other
items. There is also a £2 coin, to buy a drink for the First to
Find (you’ll need it!).
Please don’t give away hints in your logs, as this is meant to
be a difficult cache.
