How Geocaching Works
Whitefish Dunes State Park offers 11 miles of cross-country skiing and hiking trails and a beautiful sand beach. The purpose of this cache is to bring you to one of the more remote areas of the park. Enjoy the hike through a large meadow and a red pine planation.
Begin your experience by parking at N44* 55.326 W087* 12.513. Prepare to hike the trail for approximately 1.14 miles round trip. Please stay on the trails to find the cache and enjoy the surrounding habitats. The cache is in a standard ammo can with items to reflect the area. A Wisconsin State Parks and Forest sticker is required. You may self register at the above trail head parking lot.
If you want to experience the park to the fullest and enjoy hiking, pick up the summer or winter trail maps at the Whitefish Dunes Nature Center/Office and meet the friendly staff. The map will assist you regarding facilities, roads and trail use. During the winter months this cache can only be attempted by skiing from the Nature Center. The above parking lot is closed during that time and you should not park on the shoulder of the road.
Finally, remember to stay on the trails, take only pictures, cache in trash out, fond caching memories, and leave only footprints.
SPECIAL NOTE: This cache has been approved by the Whitefish Dunes Park Manager in it's location and contents.
