Plenty of easy parking near this challenging cache. The rest may not be as easy. Be very careful searching the steep cache site. A little seasonal PO may be in the general area. A naturally cammoed tan pill vial that requires a little searching in all the usual places. Just room for a log to reward all your efforts. The rating has been raised by popular request. Griding from the parking lot may be useful when seasonal tree cover is heavy.
We hope you enjoy this peaceful and scenic area. Hwy 49 is always a nice trip.
Downieville was named for Major Wm. Downie, leader of the first gold discovery party in Sierra County. Founded in 1849 as a gold mining town, and now the County seat of Sierra County. By May 1850 Downieville had 15 hotels and gambling houses, 4 bakeries and 4 butcher shops. By the mid 1850's Downieville was California's 5th largest town.
Now its a great place to get an ice cream or have lunch.
