KIAM, a part of the Voice For Christ Alaska radio network provides
the only source of news and communication to many of the native
villages in inland Alaska. It provides a daily service called the
Mukluk News to the people of this large area, which allows people
to send personal messages over the radio to others who may not have
phone or other communication methods available. This unique service
provides interesting and sometimes very entertaining listening to
much of remote northern Alaska. Tune to KIAM 630 on your AM radio
dial when you are in the area -- you might just catch the Mukluk
News.
Please park only in the gravel parking area or along the street.
DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS.
Although inside access to the KIAM buildings is not required to
find the cache, if you come to find the cache during normal
business hours (generally 8:00 - 4:30 weekdays and Sat.), come
inside through the East wing entry (near the Voice for Christ
Ministries sign) and say hello. Tell them that you
are a geocacher and they may provide you a tour of the station facilities.
Note: West coords seemed to be very erratic at this site,
possibly due to the small amount of RF transmissions being
generated at this location by the station. The hint should provide
clear identification of the cache location. The primary RF
transmitter and tower for the station is remotely located about 10
miles south of Nenana.
Small note on cache maintenance: Although this
cache is not close to my home coords, the property owners on which
this cache is located will provide cache maintenance if
needed.
