Pocumtuck Ridge Cache
#4 - Patrick Bell Memorial Cache
This is one of a
series of geocaches along the blue blazed ridge trail.
Unfortunately, every trail on this part of the ridge is blazed
blue. You can park at the gate on Pine Nook Rd. Proceed up the
service road and take the trail to the left at
N 42° 32.325
W 72° 35.328
Resist the temptation
to bushwhack as this will possibly lead you to the base of some
cliffs.
An alternate approach
is from the Pocumtuck Rock Treasure Cache.
Patrick Bell was a
local triathlete who passed away in June 2005. He was a talented
varsity sports star at nearby Deerfield Academy, excelling in
cross-country, swimming, and cycling. He trained on these trails
during the fall sports season. Patrick took Advanced Placement BC
Calculus from one of the creators of this cache, Mathteacher30, and
after graduating from Deerfield, he earned a degree in computer
science and computer systems engineering at UMass. This cache is
one small way to honor this exceptional person.
Care should be taken
with small children as the terrain rating is no exaggeration. If
your GPS is bouncing around, have no fear, you do not need
to climb down any cliffs or hike down to the bottom of the ledges.
The cache is a large sized Tupperware container that contains items
for the triathlete and technical student. It would be nice if you
could trade similar items. That is, anything relating to swimming,
running, cycling, or math/science Thanks.
We placed a Gift
Certificate to a local bike shop in the cache for the lucky
first finder!
