Geocache Description:

History of the Vancouver Transit Cache

Vancouver Transit (GC19D6) was a "travelling cache" and one of the most popular caches ever to hit the Lower Mainland. Once found, the cache finder would pick up the entire cache and re-hide it in a new location, somewhere in the Greater Vancouver area.

From September 2001 to August 2004, Vancouver Transit made over 150 different stops, each one lasting anywhere from a few hours to a few days before moving on to the next.

Vancouver Transit is no more, but Pharmadude thought it would be great to memorialize the stops it made along the way by placing permanent caches where the TRANSIenT ones once lay. Everyone is invited to join the Vancouver Transit Memorial Project (VTMP).

The Vancouver Transit Moving Cache made a temporary stopover at Aldergrove Lake Regional Park on January 26, 2003 when fear1 placed it in this GVRD park. According to a GVRD handout, "Aldergrove Lake Regional Park was molded by receding glaciers that left significant valuable gravel deposits. Gravel extraction during the past decade has reshaped the park landscape. Today the reclaimed gravel pits form the park's man-made lakes and ponds." Please respect this natural treasure and care for the park habitat, wildlife, and facilities by following the established park bylaws/regulations posted on the park kiosks. Park hours vary. During the summer, the park is open from 8 am to 9 pm (until Labour Day). After this, the park closes as early as 5 pm.

The cache is located within 2 metres of the established trail and is not located on "Goliath". There is no need to remove moss, extract rocks, or climb up or over anything. Use the hint if you feel the urge to do any of the above!
