Geocache Description:

The cache is a little filmcannister and is hiding somewhere in the ruins of Aquincum.

The Romans reached the Danube around the birth of Christ, and they roled for almost half a millenium. The Danube and its position on the frontier of the Roman Empire made the city of Aquincum strategically important at the beginning of the AD 2nd century it became the capital of Pannonia Inferior, and at the same time, the residence of the governor. It spread over the approximate area of present day Óbuda and at its height, was inhabited by roughly 60.000 people. The Civil Town consisted of the present-day archaelogical park and its environs. The legionary fortress and the surrounding civil settlement was established on and around modern Flórán Square.

History of excavations and the museum

Systematic excavations at Roman period monuments in Budapest began in the 80s of the 19th century. The Aquincum Museum was opened in 1984 to display the precious finds that had came to light.
