Geocache Description:

The cache is located in a suburban area of Nelson.

This is now cache container and location #4. #1 was near a stump under ground cover--they pulled out the stump and removed the cover. #2 was in the fork of a tree--they cut down the tree. #3 was camouflaged like a rock and placed with a number of other rocks--someone as thrown "all" the rocks away. Because it has been a popular cache, will give it one more chance for survival.

When travelling in New Zealand, it is not uncommon to see historic I.O.O.F. halls in almost every city and town. Dating from the 18th century in England, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows was introduced in the USA in 1819 and brought to New Zealand by the California gold miners in 1862. This benevolent society and other such societies provided funds for the sick and needy, which was often their only source of assistance until the government introduced the welfare state in the 1930's
The contribution made by the I.O.O.F. and its members to the welfare of early New Zealand has long been forgotten. This cache is a small reminder.

Please replace the micro-cache very carefully.

NOTE: The final cache is now at S 41 AB.GFE, E 173 AD.CDE
