Norchyka, originally from Latvia, and her husband Wes, originally
from Long Island, NY, finally decided to retire after 35 years of
teaching. They first met while she was an exchange student at CCNY
in NY. Through the course of their careers (they are inseparable)
they coordinated teaching jobs at school districts in Urbana, OH,
followed by Roberts, MT, and finally in Gilbertville, IA where two
financially strapped school districts recently combined and added
100 students to their total. This added load was all the convincing
they needed to retire immediately. Also, their three children,
Zack, Irma, and Peppin, are all grown up, have careers and
families, and are on their own now. Norchyka and Wes liked
vacationing in New Hampshire and decided to move here when they
retired because Norchyka thought the mountains and scenery in New
Hampshire reminded her of her childhood in Latvia.
As a retired geology professor and gadget freak, Wes decided to
take up geocaching as a hobby. He says it’s a male thing but
Norchyka just rolls her eyes, shakes her head, and humors him. She
actually finds most of the caches while he is intently looking at
the GPS screens. After finding a number of caches they have decided
to hide their first cache. Norchyka loves puzzles so they decided a
puzzle cache would be a good type of cache for their first hide. I
had met them on several cache outings and we became friends so they
asked me to help them and actually put their first cache under my
name because they felt that more cachers would go after a puzzle
cache from a locally known cacher. I agreed to help out. I also
thought that more cachers would look for their cache if I placed a
White Jeep Travel Bug in it, so I have.
NOTE: There is a paved roadside public parking lot about 0.20 from
the cache. Heavy tree cover in the area may degrade your fix to
about 20 feet uncertainty. When you find this cache, thank the
retired prof for the idea.
