Geocache Description:

Tapelsåsen is a part of Salpausselkä II, formed during the melting of the Great Ice during the end of the Ice Age about 8000 B C. This part is a Nature Conservation Area. The cache is near the frontier.

The ridge is now about 50-55 m over sea level. After the Ice Age Tapelsåsen was totally under water and the waves washed most of the clay, silt and sand from the deposited moraine to surrounding lower parts, leaving stones and gravel on the ridge.
Pine, heather, lichens and bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)are typical plants, but you can also get blueberries and lingon berries here. North from the cache is a peat bog, Stormossen, where peat was taken in the 1940:ies. There were a dozen barns for storing the peat blocks. You can find some remnants of them - and some cloudberries and cranberries - if you walk on Stormossen.
By bicykle you can get 25 m off (N side), by bus to Bromarv you can get off at Tapels 0,7 km to E, and by car you could park 0,6 km to W. If you come by bus the terrainrating should be 2.
