This “PodCache (AudioCache)” is located at the beautiful Indianapolis Art Museum gardens. This is the first PodCache in Indianapolis.

The magnificently landscaped grounds that comprise the Oldfields Estate now serve as the home of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Originally, Oldfields was the home of Hugh Landon, secretary of the Indianapolis Water Company. The Oldfields home was built in 1912. The twenty-two room mansion is in an 18th-century French chateau style and contains a ballroom on the third floor.

In 1920, the Landons retained the famous landscape firm of Olmstead Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts to develop the impressive grounds. The stately wrought-iron gates on Michigan Road were designed by architect Fermor S. Cannon.

The entire estate was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Kirby Lilly, Jr. in 1932.

This podcache will take you up the North Drive, through the Formal Gardens, into the Ravine Gardens, behind the Lilly House and on to the cache.

The coordinates given on this page will take you to a semi-circular bench where you should plug in your earphones and begin your walking tour. Along the way we will give you a little history as well as the coordinates for the cache itself.

Clearly this is not a drive-by cache. Instead it is for those who like to stop and smell the roses – literally. There are two other nearby caches so if you have never done any of the Art Museum caches, you can grab three in one trip.

This is our first podcache. We hope the technology doesn’t scare any cachers off. You definitely do not need an iPod to do this cache. You might want to listen to the MP3 Audio File once at home to get the feel for the cache.

This cache does not require you to enter any museums or buildings. The grounds of the Museum are opened every day of the year from dawn to dusk (so no night caching). If you also want to visit the indoor attractions, they are closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

To find this cache, you will need an MP3 Player (Doesn't have to be an iPod), or other portable audio device. We will walk you though all the steps of the cache. The MP3 file can be download here

Will got the idea for a PodCache from the PodCacher "Podcast" (Radio show delivered in MP3 format)

Park somewhere on the Art Museum's property, and follow your GPS to the coordinates at the top of the page. Then start the MP3 on your portable audio player. The cache shouldn't take more than 30 minutes (The MP3 is 15 minutes long)

Good luck, and happy PodCaching!
