Geocache Description:

A short but steep hike up to Hawk Rock, a beautiful overlook on Cove Mountain.

The Hike:
Follow the unblazed trail from the parking area up the hill. After 200 yards it meets up with the white-blazed Appalachian trail; you want to go southwest on the AT, not east. This part of the Appalachian Trail is a steep, rocky, uphill hike the whole way so bring water. You'll only be hiking for about 3/4 of a mile, but you'll be going up about 700' in elevation. Once you get to the switchback you're almost there. Not far past the top of the rock steps after the switchback is Hawk Rock. It allows an excellent view of the surrounding valley and mountains, as well as Sherman's creek below. Be sure to bring a camera!

The Cache:
The actual cache is a little further up the AT on top of the mountain, only a 2 minute walk from Hawk Rock. Stay on the AT until you get to the campfire ring. About 25 yards of light bushwhacking is required to get to the cache, which is a .50 Caliber ammo can with a few trade items and a log book.
