This cache was released for “The Great Northern Tier Geocaching Tournament – North Quabbin Event it is now available for any Geocachers who wishes to visit the cache after the event.
Cook's Canyon Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary has two adjoining parcels—Cook’s Canyon and Williams Woods—that can be explored on its quarter-mile trail, which leads you through scenic meadowlands and a forest. During the fall foliage season, bring your binoculars or spotting scope to look out over the spectacular wooded ravine, brook, and waterfall.
Directions:
From the Mass. Turnpike (Rt I-90): Take exit 8 (Rt 32 north). Follow Rt 32 north for approximately 26 miles to Barre Center. At the town common, turn left onto South Street. The sanctuary parking lot is 0.3 miles ahead, marked with a Mass Audubon sign on the left.
From Rt 2: Take exit 22 (Gardner/Hubbardston). Follow rotary around to Rt 68 south (Hubbardston) and follow for 8.9 miles. Take a right onto Rt 62 west (Barre/Athol) and follow for 5.6 miles to Barre Center. Bear left toward the "Stop" sign. Go straight through the "Stop" sign onto South Street. Follow South Street for 0.3 miles from the common, and the sanctuary parking lot is on your left at the Mass Audubon sign.
