Moses Shinn and his son Dick began operating Shinns Ferry across the Platte River in 1859. To find out the rest of this story you'll have to drive out and locate this site(Which should be fairly easy) and finish reading the historical marker yourself. I'm kinda lazy that way, you see! Besides getting a history lesson, you'll find it's also a great place to get out and stretch your legs.
