[ENG:] The Aspegren garden at Rosenlund is located by the eastern road into Jakobstad. The rectory buildings, the stone-built cowshed and the Aspegren garden are enclosed by a stone wall in the midst of open fields and meadows, creating a unique setting in the town. The garden was founded in the 18th century by the Revend Gabriel Aspegren and is on of the oldest rectory gardens in Finland. Gabriel Aspegren was appointed rector of Pedersöre in 1754. He studied not only theology but also sciences at the University of Uppsala and Åbo Academy.

In 1755 he was given permission to cultivate a rocky hillside of woodland on barren, marshy lands called Rosenlund. The land was cleared, the rocks were broken up and a residence was built as early as 1757. The following year a small garden was created on the south side of this enchanting residence. A larger garden to the east was constructed between 1760 and 1768. A stone-built cowshed was completed in 1776, in its day the grandest in Finland. The Aspegren garden has been recreated not only for commercial gain featuring plants from the 18th century but also as a source of information for the general public about modernday gardening activities. The garden's significance extends far beyond the status of tourist attraction.
