Geocache Description:

The Connecticut Lakes Region is the Northernmost and wildest region of New Hampshire.

Pittsburg is the gateway to the Connecticut Lakes Region. Pittsburg is the largest township in the United States containing over 300,000 acres of timberlands, mountains, forests, lakes and streams. It stretches 20 miles from the center of town to the Canadian Border and there was not one cache in the entire region except on the town common in Pittsburg at the southernmost end of the region when this one was placed. This region is a mecca for hunting, fishing, bird watching, deer and moose observation, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

There are four Connecticut Lakes starting at the Canadian border which form the headwaters of the Connecticut River. Second Connecticut Lake is large and picturesque. The original winter friendly cache was placed at the top of a steep bank overlooking the dam and spillway at the South end of the Lake. It was a plastic container, army green in color. The original cache and the tree it was in were lost in a wind storm. A new micro cache has been placed in a different nearby location. See the May 24, 2007 logs below.
