in our disclaimer.
This cache was placed in honour of us finding our first 100
caches!!
Cache is a small clear plastic snap-lock container, suitable only
for small swaps.
When placed it contained, log book, pencil, sharpener, eraser,
keyring, small wooden pig, small wooden bee, 2 blue glass blobs,
magic trick, NZ 2¢, Push-Play green balloon and a piece of CAUTION
tape.
Hinewai Reserve is a 1050 hectare reserve in the southeastern
corner of Banks Peninsula. An initial block of 109 hectares was
bought by the Maurice White Native Forest Trust in September 1987.
Four years later the Trust greatly enlarged the reserve through the
purchase of Otanerito Station. The whole area is managed privately
for the protection and restoration of native vegetation and
wildlife, and conservation values come first. However, visitors are
welcome, to walk the tracks, to look and wonder , and perhaps to
help in this down-to-earth conservation project.
More information is available from:

Depending on the route you take, the road into this area might
only have a gravel surface and the roads are slightly more
'interesting' here, so take care with your driving. While you are
in the area, we suggest you go just a bit further to look for
Long Bay, Banks Peninsula - Otanerito. The road down to
that one is a bit more challenging for some vehicles, but there is
a lovely walking track to the beach, especially on a beautiful day.
PLEASE obey all signs and stick to the track.
Difficulty and terrain ratings are based mainly on the roads and
elevation of cache site, but you can get fairly close by vehicle
and the walk up to it is not too difficult. The cache itself
shouldn't be too hard to find once you are there. Park at the
beginning of the track to Jules and Mikimiki Knobs and you won't be
too far away!
