Hike through a very different Pine Forest (Yes a pine forest in Hawaii)
The hard part of this cache is that you will NOT be able to get a GPS reading until you are about 100 Meters from the cache site.. So you need to follow these clues. You should be on a trail for ALL of this adventure.

1) Drive to the top of Olinda road to the start of the trail which is well marked as Waihou Springs Trail.

2) Follow the trail and take the loop trail to the highest point uphill. Then find a less travelled trail which continues uphill and to the right. Sometimes people place sticks and branches over the start of this less traveled trail so people do not mistake it for the loop trail but the trail is still visible.

2) Follow the less traveled trail up and then to the right to cross the gulch at the rocky waterfall top and streambed (Do NOT climb down into or fall into the ravine).

3) Now walk back down the mountain (you will actually be walking uphill) along the edge of the gully in a cow pasture. At this pont your GPS should be working and you should be able to start your search for the Geo Cache.

The cache is a 8 quart rubbermade container and contains some very fine things :-)

Read the Hints/Spoiler if you need more clues.

The original cache was set in October of 2001 but was archived in 2003 because the owner moved away from Maui.

I found the basic location but the actual cache location remained a mystery to me. Enjoyed the walk through the pine forest, it was good to get away from the heat.

Looked for quite a while (a few days ago) in the most likely spot but really could not find it, though we think we found the broken latch referred to in a previous note. Bummed not to find it, but enjoyed the forest walk and the view from the meadow.
