At first this would seem to be a simpler task than the DeLorme caches, as they often require you to find caches throughout an entire state. But you have to consider that San Bernardino County is the largest county in the US (by area), borders two states (Nevada and Arizona) and is home to mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, deserts, military bases, National Landmarks, Route 66, and even a few urban areas. It is one of the few places in the world that you can go snow skiing and water skiing in the same day.
To complete this cache you must find or place a cache on each page in the San Bernardino County Thomas Guide. Even if you are familiar with San Bernardino County, you may not be aware that there are a total of 280 qualifying pages in the Thomas Guide. On quad pages (such as page 4813) all four detail pages must have a cache, and on index pages (such as page 388) there must be a cache that is NOT on one of the included detail pages. If a page includes areas not located in San Bernardino County, only caches in the San Bernardino County portion of the page will count. A list of all the required pages is included below, and can be used to keep track of your progress.
If you find that your are getting close to finishing the challenge, please send me a list of your finds and the pages they represent so I can start checking them. My preference would be that you send this as a .gpx file, a copy of your GSAK database file (hint: use a "User Data" column for the map book page number), or a spreadsheet compatible with Excel or Google Sheets just so I don't go nuts trying to figure it all out.
Remember that all cache finds/hides must meet geocaching.com guidelines. Finds/hides can predate the posting of this cache, and can be of any standard cache type. (I will also accept Benchmark finds as an alternative to cache finds, however the Benchmark must be in the geocaching.com database and the find must be an actual disk - no radio or water towers or tops of buildings - with corrected coordinates and a picture of the disk attached in the Benchmark log.) A find cannot be logged on this cache until all qualifying cache finds/hides have been verified and the log for this cache has been signed.
The final decision on any question or dispute rests with the cache owner.
The Thomas Guide for San Bernardino County has not changed significantly in recent years. However, should there be any question, the 2006 guide will be the master for this challenge.
As with most puzzle caches, the posted coordinates are not the actual coordinates for the cache.
A note about the "Additional Hint". This cache was created at a time when Thomas Guides were still readily available. The pages listed in the hint are from guides other than San Bernardino County; 541 is Los Angeles, 741 Orange County and 742 Riverside County. You are welcome to find caches on these pages but it is no longer required for this challenge due to lack of availability of these guides. I'm leaving the hint as-is to maintain the original flavor of this cache.
