Geocache Description:

This cache is in honor of the trains that use to travel from San Francisco to Monterey along Del Monte Blvd.

The cache is a very small container that contains only a log. You must bring your  own pen. Cache is very well hidden.

NOTE: I will delete your log if you are too descriptive and give away too much information about the  cache.

The railroad was instrumental in the development of Monterey. The trains started running a regular schedule  into Monterey around 1880. The economy blossomed because of the railroad as did the western United  States wherever  tracks were laid.

Sardines a large mainstay of the local economy flourished with the advent of the railroad as a means of  shipping. The last train  departed Monterey in 1971. Today the tracks are still visible in places, but have  been replaced by a  pedestrian and bicycle path that stretches from Castroville all the way to Lovers Point  in Pacific Grove. The path is approximately 20 miles long. It is very busy on the weekends especially when the weather is nice.
