begge i Københavns inderhavn.
backstage-faciliteter. Publikumsmæssigt ersattter
skuespilhuset således den nuværende sædekapacitet
i Stærekassen og de to Turbinehaller. Gamle Scene vil fortsat

The new Play house in Copenhagen
In 2008, the Royal Theatre’s and Danish
theatre’s new playhouse will open at Kvæsthusbroen by
the Copenhagen harbour front.
Construction will start in 2004 following a
process started in May 2001 when political consensus was reached on
the location of the new Royal Theatre playhouse at
Kvæsthusbroen. In May 2002, the Danish architects Boje
Lundgaard and Lene Tranberg won the open international design
competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture.
With the opening of the new playhouse, the Royal
Theatre will consist of the Old Stage on Kongens Nytorv and the new
harbour front opera house and playhouse on Dokøen and at
Kvæsthusbroen respectively.
The playhouse will accommodate a large stage
with a seated capacity of 750 and with a smaller, flexible stage
with a seated capacity of 250. A combined rehearsal auditorium and
intimate stage will seat 100. In addition, there will be rehearsal
facilities, an assembly shop, a theatre foyer and different
backstage facilities. The playhouse will replace the capacity of
the existing stages: Stærekassen and the two stages at
Turbinehallerne. The Old Stage will continue to stage selected
productions, and most of the theatre administration will still be
conducted from here.
