Geocache Description:

A visit to a Memorial to the sinking of the Wahine Ferry, and then a walk along the nearby coastline, followed by a bit of a steep climb.

The Inter-Island Ferry Wahine tried to enter the Wellington harbour on 10th April 1968 during a violent storm. It hit rocks near the harbour entrance, and ended up sinking on the far side of a large offshore rock near the memorial at the given coordinates.

Despite the closeness to the shore, most lifeboats were blown over to the other side of the harbour, and 51 people lost their lives - of exposure, or being dashed onto rocks.
Almost everyone that was present in Wellington on that day will remember it forever.

You will need to visit the memorial, and find the following information:

AB = the number of links in the anchor chain (NOT counting any shackles at the very ends!)
CDE = the number of survivors
F = the number of vents/funnels here
G = the number of lifeboats that made it to Seatoun

H=A+B
J=F-B
K=A+G
L=F-G-B

The actual cache is at S 41° 19.HKJ E 174° 50.LCE

There is a walkway that leads from here around the coast to the cache site. You can then carry on along the walk and along Breaker Bay beach and back via the Pass of Branda and the Seatoun streets if you like.

WARNINGS:
The cache is above the walkway. You will need to be reasonably agile to climb up. There is a reasonably easy way up if you look for it.
The climb is on rock. The rock may be extremely slippery if it is wet.
There are cliffs very near the cache. Take care.
Breaker Bay beach is a favourite for nudists!

The cache container is a ~1l octagonal nail jar.
