Geocache by Lily Cache Creek Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cldisme: Sadly, the cache container was stolen once again. Plus all the times I had to disable due to flooding, this really wasn't working out to be as fun as I had hoped.

I am now archiving this cache. Farewell. I wish it could have turned out better for this one.

Geocache Description:

September 1, 2007 UPDATE: The flood waters have receeded. The cache site area is full of mud and mosquitos. Please take appropriate precautions for both.

This is just your normal, everyday geocache in Van Horn Woods of the Plainfield Township Park District. The container is a large ammo box. Normally, I'll try to keep it stocked with mostly children's toys and a few items to interest the grown-ups.

At the cache site, there is plenty of evidence that raccoons and possums patrol the area, so the cache is currently covered with some bark to avoid any "unpleasantness" landing on the cache. So, please replace accordingly, and absolutely NO FOOD!

I normally park on the Lily Cache Drive side, but you can get across a foot bridge if you end up on the Frontage Road side near the dog park.

Lastly, the cache site (the whole park, actually) is within an identified floodplain. It is possible the cache may not be accessible during a significant flood. During normal wet periods, the cache site is muddy, swampy, squishy or some other adjective to describe wet soils that will stick to your boots.

Proper discretion is advised during those times as to footwear or even whether or not to attempt seeking the cache. I will try to post notices or even disable the cache as necessary.

Due to the flooding events, the cache container is now tethered. It is not 100% muggle proof, but it will help keep the container where it is supposed to be during a flood. Please hide the tether when you re-hide the container.
