Stonegate's Gate: Coyote Creek Trail's End Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

STP Ron: I'm getting tired of replacing this. Since there's another cache nearby, it's redundant.

Geocache Description:

A micro-cache hidden in Stonegate Park near the end of the Coyote Creek Trail

The Coyote Creek Trail runs continuously from Anderson Dam in Morgan Hill to near Tully Road (so far) in San Jose. The County Parks part of the trail stops at Coyote-Hellyer Park. North of Yerba Buena Road, it's a San Jose city park trail. Between Yerba Buena and Capitol Expressway is an old section that's been repaired and cleaned up. North of Capitol is a newer section that looks as good, or even better, than the county part of the trail. I put a series of caches here to draw attention to this new trail segment. This new section is sandwiched between Coyote Creek and the Los Lagos Golf Course from Capitol Expressway to Stonegate Park.

As an independent trail, the Coyote Creek Trail currently ends at Stonegate Park in San Jose, at the end of the Los Lagos Golf Course. There it enters Stonegate Park and becomes part of the park's path system. This cache is near the end of the trail. You don't need to leave the trail to reach it. There's a gate here. This gate is locked after sunset, but the cache is on the park side of the gate so is accessible at night, though it's against park rules to be in the park at night. You don't have to go beyond the fence to the creek side.

Update 2009: the Coyote Creek Trail now runs all the way to Tully Road. It still runs through Stonegate Park, but as a marked trail. After Stonegate Park, it passes by the Police Mounted Unit and then behind a ballfield at the Tully Sportsfield complex.

This is a sign-only cache. Bring your own pen. It may take more force than you might think to extract it.

How do you get here? Go up the Coyote Creek Trail. It starts in Morgan Hill. I recommend taking the trail north from Capitol Expressway. Park in the shopping center at Capitol and Tuers. The trail entrance is across the street. You can also drive north on Tuers Road off Capitol Expressway. Follow the golf course until it ends at Stonegate Park. You can also get here by taking Tully Road west from 101 and turning left (south) at Sherlock. Go around Stonegate School, turning right at Gassmann and follow it to the south end of the park. Park on Tuers near the end of the golf course. The trail gate is in the corner of the park.
