Geocache Description:

This is #4 of the Kohala Series.

This local 'Nature Park' is being replanted with native plants as alien species have been removed from the property. The Waikoloa River borders on the North end of the park. There is large area of open property suitable for picnics, lounging and other activities in this park.

Richard Waller has been with the nature park since its inception 6.5 years ago and has been the "man with the vision" of what a 'Nature Park' at a 2,500-foot elevation should look like.
The search committee for Waller's successor, headed by Hendricks with Victor Obrastoff and Ben Discoe, has selected master gardener and volunteer Craig Witherspoon.
Witherspoon and his wife Coletta, also a master gardener, have been active volunteers for some time. Waller is currently training Witherspoon in the duties of the part-time park planner.

---> Anyone who wishes to say "Aloha" to Waller can come by 'Waimea Nature Park'. The park is a project of Waimea Outdoor Circle and is being developed and maintained solely by volunteers. The park is open to the public during daylight hours. The chain at the entrance is opened at 8:00am and locked at 5:30pm.
Parking is past the Canadian-France-Hawai'i Observatory' building over a short rough rocky driveway.

---> The pathway found on the left side of the entrance leads directly to the mini-cache, then continues on onto the newly opened section and through the (dry) Waikoloa Stream bed along the fence line and stops at the the entrance of the research station.

The Wi-Fi in the Park is courtesy of the C.F.H. building.
