Duthie Park is a public park donated to the City of Aberdeen by
Lady Elizabeth Duthie of Ruthrieston in 1881, and opened to the
public in 1883. Situated near the River Dee, it has a large open
area as well as a bandstand, fountains, ponds and statues, plus a
rose mountain with a summer display of over 120,000 roses. Within
the park are the Winter Gardens, which were rebuilt in 1970 and
considered to be one of the largest covered gardens in Europe. They
house many exotic plants including the largest collection of cacti
in Britain.
The park can be approached from several directions and there is
a large car park just off Riverside Drive.
The cache is situated somewhere in the grounds of the park (not
the Winter Gardens), and can be accessed by footpath apart from the
last few yards. Please note, the container is simply a zip-seal bag
with a log book, pencil, sharpener and Geocache information, and
will only accommodate very small or thin items such as GeoCoins or
thin travel bugs. There is a "lucky?" prize for the first to find.
Please take care to ensure the cache is replaced as found.
{I am a regular visitor to Aberdeen, but in the event that I am
unable to carry out a maintenance check, this will be done by "Lost
Geordie" who is a local resident and has kindly volunteered to act
as a back up}.
Update July 2007 - the container is now a small tupperware
type of box.
Update September 2007 - cache repositioned a few feet away
and hint altered.
