This cache will take you to one of the most beautiful places in Fiordland Nation Park. On the way from Te Anau to Milford Sound you will find The Divive which is a starting point of the Routeburn track. From The Divide carpark take the Routeburn track, in about an hour there will be a turn off to Key Summit track and it will take about 20 minutes to get to the summit with panoramic views over the Humboldt and Darran Mountains. The walk to Key Summit is very well done (thanks to DOC) and has spectacular views! It goes through alpine forest, sub-alpine shublands, waterfalls and streams. There is a lot of birdlife: you might spot robins, bellbirds, skylarks and kereru pigeons.
At Key Summit there is a beautiful alpine lake. Please do not disturb the vegetation around the lake as it is a very fragile environment.
It is also possible to take a nature walk that goes through alpine shrublands with bogs and tarns. This little walk leads to a lookout onto lake Marion in the distance.
This is really a great place to look for a cache!
If you are standing really close to the cache you can see this amazing view!!
