Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the edge of a beautiful crater lake with deep pristine water, hidden but easily accessable by road.

This crater lake adjoining Lake Rerewhakaaitu is a hidden jem, missed by many, but enjoyed by those who know it is there for it's deep clear water and unspoilt peaceful surroundings. The lake is easy to reach from various access points. There are various DOC camp sites very near. Co-ordinates for the Ashpit Road Doc camp site are S38 16.659 E176 30.411. The nearest landing to the cache on the main lake (Rerewhakaaitu) is at S38 17.215 E176 29.602. The nearest road access (no car park) is at S38 17.107 E176 29.349. However to reach the cache you will be required to swim or take a boat or other floatation device. The cache is hidden a couple of meters above the water line in a rocky hollow above an obvious swimming/diving rock.

The cache contains: a fully functional cell phone with accessories, a whistle, a pen, chewies, 2 sets of AA batteries. log book and pencil. The cache is in a green painted food container.
